...Opening Comments from Bob
This Issue: The exhibit, Egypt: Times of the Pharaohs, was a treat to tour while in Utah. Hence, I thought I would share a few pictures of the event with you. Two of my favorite recent poems, Soundless Snow and Keyboard Warning, speak of truths. Enjoy!

Two Poems + Bonus
Soundless Snow
Have you ever heard
the sound of snow?
I never have
though I know of its arrival.
The indicators are many,
a howling wind
stinging the face
or peering out into the morning white
awakening the visual senses.
Or perhaps standing still, eyes closed
in the eve of night,
wet flakes touch the cheeks,
silently announcing their presence.
As with much in life,
the soundless leave marks
on our lives.Inspired by Hakuin Ekaku quote: “If only you could hear the sound of snow . . .”

Keyboard Warning
Hope is sometimes
hard to come by.
Hatred and derision
only a light touch away.
Likewise, a click away
resides beauty and sounds
conveying humankind's very best.
Words of inspiration,
melodies of love and peace,
and visuals of unimaginable beauty.
Perhaps every keyboard
should come with a warning,
“Beware of where you click.
You could endanger your health.”

Bonus Poem: On Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram I have been running a daily series of my poems accompanied with an appropriate picture. I will show a favorite in this section each month. This poem first appeared in VOLUME I – Issue 4: Sunday, April 3, 2001 .
Vignette this Month: Egypt: Time of the Pharaohs
This exhibit has traveled throughout the U.S. It left the Natural History Museum in Salt Lake City for Denver in early January. It was here for several months. Below is the promo for the exhibit.
"More than 5,000 years ago, Egypt’s fascinating pharaohs led one of the world’s most advanced and preeminent civilizations. They built magnificent pyramids and temples and produced extraordinary art and cultural splendor, which spawned a mythical reputation that now captivates peoples’ imagination around the globe.
Featuring more than 350 original artifacts, some more than 4,500 years old, Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs sheds new light on spheres of life along the fertile Nile Valley—from everyday people to their dynastic rulers. Detailed models of famed pyramids, temples and Egyptian homes, as well as extensive multimedia overlays, films, and interactives guide visitors through the fantasy and facts of ancient Egypt."
