Background: J.L. Driskill has been writing poetry since he was nineteen. "I don't write as much at fifty-one as I did then, but I am starting to get back into it. (There's a poem in there somewhere: the similarities of youth and maturity!!) I write for the pure enjoyment of putting thoughts down on paper (or CRT). If you want to contact Jim, you can email him at jdriskil@neobright.net.

SEE Jim's prayer following the poem. It is based upon the Prayer of Jabaz.

Background: "... In December of 1990 when all hell was breaking loose in the Middle East, I really felt like something was about to change in my life. As you know, in January of 1991 I was called back into the Army and spent about five months in Saudi Arabia. That uneasiness inspired this poem."

It was a simpler time, when the world was flat.
It was a simpler time, when we explained the unknown
by saying that beyond that point there be dragons.
Indeed, beyond that point we went,
and fight the dragons we did,
and one by one the dragons fell;
To knowledge they succumbed.
It is no longer a simple time.
It is now a time of atoms, bits, bytes, and mega memory.
It is still a simple time only in the eye of a dreamer;
for there, thank God, there still be dragons........
great, glorious beasts on golden wings,
holding the human spirit high above the plane of
common knowledge and technology, in a place where
It is simple and the world is flat.

As Jabez prayed many centuries ago.
Father, Bless us indeed, expand our territory, that your hand would be with
us to protect us from evil, that we may do no harm."
Expand our territory, that we may touch others in a positive way. Let those
who come into contact with us know that we LIVE "The Way".
Protect us from the evil of mankind -- Ignorance, Intolerance and Injustice.
Let us show through our lives that ignorance must be defeated by knowledge,
intolerance cannot be accepted and injustice must be challenged.
Let those with whom we come into contact know that we will not cause pain,
that we will provide help and comfort as we are able.
Father, Bless this congregation that they may not only be touched by your
spirit but that that spirit may touch the lives of others through them.
Father, Bless you servant Thomas Snyder that he may continue to lead this
congregation in the Spiritual quest that we have chosen to pursue. From
Acceptance to Resurrection, in the Joyous times and the Sad help him and
give him the strength, knowledge and patience to carry on with your work.
We pray in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
AMEN
